What Does Lanternfang Do?
Lanternfang grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls.
Last Light. As a bonus action, you can cause the dagger to shed dim light in a 10-foot radius for 10 minutes.
While this light is active, you have advantage on one Wisdom (Perception) check made to notice hidden doors, tracks, traps,
or lurking creatures in darkness. Once this advantage is used, it cannot be used again until you finish a long rest.
Fang of the Roadside Flame. Once per long rest, when you hit an undead, fiend, or shadow-like creature
with this dagger, you deal an extra 1d4 radiant damage.
History & Lore
Lanternfang was forged from the final iron nail of a roadside chapel destroyed by bandits and swallowed by the old woods. Pilgrims once carried the blade not to kill, but to find the road after sunset. When the roads themselves became haunted, the dagger changed. Its amber blade began to hold a tiny wandering light, said to be the last prayer spoken inside the chapel before it burned. Those who carry Lanternfang often dream of distant bells, muddy paths, and a warm window glowing somewhere beyond the trees.
GM Notes
Designed for level 2–3 characters. Lanternfang offers exploration value and a very situational damage boost. It works especially well in dark dungeons, haunted roads, graveyards, and low-level undead encounters.
