How to Use Jakk at the Table
Use Jakk as the most volatile element in an Ashroad Reavers scene. He is not automatically trying to start a fight, but his readiness to become dangerous should be visible from the first moment.
During negotiations, Serafein does not need to tell him to stand down. He watches her. That dynamic tells the party almost everything they need to know about the Reavers’ internal order.
Jakk is the Reaver the party is most likely to provoke by accident. His threshold for “cause” is lower than the rest of the band, but beneath the volume is a young man trying very hard to prove he belongs.
Roleplaying Jakk
Personality
Jakk is loud in the way young people who have not yet learned to be quiet are loud: not from confidence, but from its absence. He is energetic, direct, and genuinely enthusiastic about being part of something.
Mannerisms
He cracks his knuckles before situations he thinks might become fights, stands too close without noticing, and laughs loudly at things before anyone else has decided whether they are funny.
Bonds and Flaws
Bond: Serafein recruited him. He performs competence very loudly and hopes she notices.
Flaw: He has decided the best way to be taken seriously is to be the most dangerous person in the room. He is not wrong about the danger. He is very wrong about the rest.
Combat Snapshot
Medium humanoid (half-orc), chaotic neutral. AC 14 (unarmored defense, in-field adjusted), HP 26 (2d12+8), Speed 30 ft.
Saving Throws: STR +5, CON +6. Skills: Athletics +5, Intimidation +2, Survival +2, Perception +2.
Senses: darkvision 60 ft., passive Perception 10. Languages: Common, Orcish. Challenge: 1 (200 XP).
Barbarian Features
Rage. Jakk can enter a rage as a bonus action twice per long rest. While raging, he gains +2 melee damage, resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, and advantage on Strength checks and saves.
Reckless Attack. Jakk can attack with advantage on his first attack each turn. If he does, attacks against him have advantage until his next turn.
Danger Sense. Jakk has advantage on Dexterity saving throws against effects he can see, unless blinded, deafened, or incapacitated.
Half-Orc Endurance. When reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, Jakk drops to 1 hit point instead once per long rest.
Plot Hooks
- Kragg’s men capture Jakk as leverage against the Reavers. He has been held for two days and is furious rather than frightened, which is making the situation worse.
- Jakk pulls the party aside at camp and quietly asks them to teach him something: a skill, a tactic, anything. He will not explain why, but it matters to him.
- During a road negotiation, Jakk nearly escalates the scene before Serafein’s silence pulls him back.
Encounter Ideas
- Front Line Reaver: Jakk stands too close during a toll negotiation, watching Serafein for the moment he is allowed to move.
- Captured Asset: the party must extract Jakk before anger makes stealth impossible.
- Training Request: a party member who takes Jakk seriously earns a loyal contact among the Reavers.
- Clan Trouble: someone recognizes the scar and calls Jakk by a name he has not used in years.
Relationships and Location
Jakk is usually at the Köhlerhütte camp or at the front of the Ashroad ambush line. He wants to look like the most dangerous person present and has not learned how much that gives away.
Serafein Ashveil: captain and recruiter. Her opinion matters enormously to him. Brund Falkenauge: Jakk respects him deeply and is slightly afraid of him, which he would never admit.
Corda: another young Reaver. They argue constantly and have each other’s backs automatically.
