What Does Cap of the Respectful Bat Do?
The Cap of the Respectful Bat is a Common Transmutation wondrous item that rewards patience and precise positioning. Once per dawn, as an action, pull the cap down over your ears and adopt a respectful bat-approved stance: hanging, leaning, or crouching so that your head drops below your waist.
While in this position, you gain advantage on the next Wisdom (Perception) check that relies on hearing, provided you do not move more than 5 feet before making the check. If you move further before rolling, the advantage is forfeited. The cap does not negotiate on this point.
No attunement is required. The benefit resets at dawn.
Drawback: The Cap Has Standards
The cap squeaks quietly when it approves of acoustics. Requires an undignified posture.
The squeaking is soft but unmistakable, and it tends to occur at the most inopportune moments. The posture required to activate the cap — head below waist, ideally looking earnest about it — is difficult to execute with dignity. These are features, not bugs. The bat respects the commitment.
